Yoon Ha-eun (played by Kim Ji-won), a cheerful but clumsy architecture student, hurries to class, clutching her sketchbook and a cup of coffee.

Ha-eun: “I can’t be late again! Professor Park will kill me!”

As she runs across the courtyard, she collides with Kang Joon-ho (played by Song Kang), a tall, composed business student known for his cold demeanor. The coffee spills over his crisp white shirt.

Ha-eun: “Oh no, I’m so sorry! Are you okay?”
Joon-ho: (calm but irritated) “You should watch where you’re going.”
Ha-eun: “Let me buy you another coffee!”
Joon-ho: “Don’t bother.”

Their brief encounter leaves a lasting impression on Ha-eun, who later learns from her friend Min-ji that Joon-ho is the heir to Kang Holdings, one of Korea’s biggest business empires.

Scene 2 – Joon-ho’s Corporate World

The scene shifts to Joon-ho’s office, where he works part-time managing company projects while pursuing his MBA. His life is disciplined, controlled, and lonely.

His secretary reminds him of a family dinner.

Secretary: “Sir, your father expects you at the company event tonight.”
Joon-ho: (sighs) “Tell him I’ll try to be there.”

He glances at the coffee-stained shirt hanging nearby and smirks faintly—remembering the clumsy girl from the morning.

Scene 3 – The Architecture Department Struggles

Ha-eun stays late at the studio, perfecting her model for the university architecture contest. Her professor, Professor Park, critiques her harshly.

Professor Park: “Your design has passion, but it lacks structure. Architecture is about balance—just like life.”

Though discouraged, Ha-eun’s determination shines through. Winning this contest is her only chance at a full scholarship.

Ha-eun (to herself): “I’ll show them that dreams can be built with heart.”

Scene 4 – Rainy Night, Unexpected Ride

On her way home, it begins to pour. Her umbrella flips inside out in the strong wind. Just as she struggles, a sleek black car stops beside her—it’s Joon-ho.

Joon-ho: “Get in. You’ll catch a cold.”
Ha-eun: “You again? I’m fine.”
Joon-ho: “Consider it interest on that spilled coffee.”

Inside the car, silence fills the air. Ha-eun nervously tries to lighten the mood.

Ha-eun: “Do rich people always act this serious?”
Joon-ho: (smirks) “Maybe we just learned to hide warmth.”

For a moment, their eyes meet, hinting at a fragile connection beneath their differences.

Scene 5 – A Coffee and a Truce

The next day, Ha-eun surprises Joon-ho by showing up at a café with a fresh cup of coffee.

Ha-eun: “Here. Truce?”
Joon-ho: (accepts) “Truce.”

As they talk, she discovers that Joon-ho is involved in a business project to fund community architecture spaces. She becomes animated discussing her own dream of building homes that connect people.

Ha-eun: “Buildings should breathe life into communities.”
Joon-ho: “You think emotions belong in business?”
Ha-eun: “Everything does—if you care enough.”

Her words linger in his mind long after she leaves.

Scene 6 – Clash at Kang Holdings

Joon-ho attends a tense board meeting with his father, Chairman Kang. The chairman dismisses his ideas about socially responsible projects.

Chairman Kang: “This isn’t charity. Focus on profit.”
Joon-ho: “Maybe that’s why our company feels empty.”

After the meeting, Joon-ho stands alone by the window, remembering Ha-eun’s passion. For the first time, he begins to question the world he’s been raised to rule.

Scene 7 – University Festival Night

Bright lights, laughter, and food stalls fill the campus. Ha-eun and Min-ji explore the festival together. At the design booth, Ha-eun proudly displays her model of a community library, symbolizing shared dreams.

Suddenly, Joon-ho appears, dressed casually, holding cotton candy.

Ha-eun: “You? At a student festival?”
Joon-ho: “You said your dream deserved support.”

He helps fix a broken piece of her model, their hands brushing lightly.

Ha-eun: “You’re not so bad when you smile.”
Joon-ho: “Don’t get used to it.”

The fireworks begin, reflecting in their eyes as the crowd cheers. The two stand close, their unspoken emotions growing stronger.

Scene 8 – Rooftop Confession

Later, Ha-eun watches the fireworks from the rooftop, whispering to herself.

Ha-eun: “One day, I’ll build something that brings people together.”

Joon-ho appears quietly behind her.

Joon-ho: “Then let me help you build it.”

For the first time, his tone is soft—sincere. The two gaze at the sky, standing side by side as the city lights shimmer below. The romantic tension between them begins to bloom.

Episode 1 Summary

Episode 1 of Head Over Heels beautifully sets up a modern Cinderella-style romance between a poor yet spirited architecture student and a cold, wealthy heir. Through humor, warmth, and emotional connection, it explores how love begins not in perfection—but in imperfection.

Both characters are introduced with clear contrasts: Ha-eun’s heart leads her, while Joon-ho’s mind confines him. Their first encounter may be accidental, but destiny has already begun its quiet work—making them fall, slowly but surely, head over heels.
